The redbud tree seems to beckon springtime’s vernal bloom with the onset of its lovely pink flowers in the spring.  This native tree is considered an understory tree, which means that it prefers the shade of another tree, or perhaps even in the shadow of your house.  These trees usually do not get very tall, reaching only 15-25 feet in mature height with an equal length in its spread as its height, usually.  These trees can withstand full-sun, but really prefer the shade of other trees, especially in Nashville’s blistering summer heat.  We ask that you only plant this tree if you can’t plant a large canopy-producing tree because of the proximity of power lines.    This tree does not get very tall and does not produce large load bearing branches, which NES considers an imminent risk to their utility lines.
