The Yellow Creek is a waterway that runs through Dickson, Houston, and Montgomery Counties, TN. The creek originates near Tennessee City, TN and runs north through the town of Yellow Creek before draining into the Cumberland River near Cumberland City. The environment surrounding the creek is characterized by having rough terrain and a number of cave and rock formations, including Ruskin Cave. Yellow Creek played an important part in the Civil War; guerrilla fighters in Dickson used the rugged terrain to hide out in the Yellow Creek Valley and Nathan Bedford Forrest’s command traveled through the area during their 1862 retreat from Fort Donelson.
