  • The Io Moth startles predatory birds by flashing large eyespots – a “startle pattern” – when threatened. 
  • The Io Moth caterpillar can deliver a painful sting. 
  • Host plants include native oak, pin cherries, willow, hackberries, hornbeams, buttonbush, and others.
