  • Spotted Tail Salamanders are also known as Cave Salamanders. They can be found in and around cave entrances, among wet rocks, logs and in underground springs.
  • They inhabit areas of caves known as the “Twilight Zone.” The Twilight Zone of a cave is a cool, damp, and dimly lit area, extending beyond the cave’s entrance, where there is just enough light to see. 
  • These salamanders are troglophiles – organisms can spend their entire lives in caves.   
  • Spotted Tail Salamander lay their eggs in deep in subterranean streams and pools.
