Conservation Status

  • Skunks can spray 10ft, and their odor can be smelled a mile and a half away. 
  • Striped skunks lower their body temperature in winter to conserve energy while hibernating. 
  • Skunks are immune to snake venom. They eat snakes, even venomous species like rattlesnakes. 
  • In the 19th century, the species was often domesticated and kept around barns to keep rodents and snakes away.
