White Tailed Deer

Odocoileus-virginianus

Classification

Conservation Status

  • Bucks grow new antlers each year.
  • Deer can eat about 2,000 lbs of vegetation every year.
  • White-tailed deer have several ways of communicating danger to one another. They flick their white tails when nervous and snort through their nostrils if they see danger at a distance. When they take off at a run, their visible white tails signal to others to do the same.
  • Deer will swim across deep waterways to escape predators.
