  • The only host plant for the Zebra Swallowtail butterfly is the pawpaw, an iconic North American tree that produces the continent’s largest fruit. 
  • The presence of zebra swallowtails usually indicates that pawpaws are nearby. 
  • Zebra Swallowtail caterpillars eat one another, so females lay single eggs on pawpaw leaves. 
  • Zebra Swallowtail have a shorter probosis than other swallowtail butterflies and drink nectar from shorter, shallower flowers. Redbuds, milkweed, and vervain are all favorites of the species.
